We woke up early today to get to the airport the required 3 hours before our flight. The T A X I we caught was the worst one we have caught this holiday so far. My god - the guy took the Treme way.
When we were in New Orleans at the Jazz festival we caught a Taxi home on the second day. He ended up taking us the back way to the French Quarter - through an area called Treme. If you google Treme you will see that it isn't the best place for Honky's like us showing our pearly white faces in and this black taxi driver took us all the way through it. I could see Steve looking around going "WTF?" and getting nervous as well. Me, I wasn't too bad as I recognised the street names so I had a pretty good idea where I was and how we could get to the hotel if some shit went down. Once we arrived back at the hotel that trip was nicknamed "The Treme Way".
So back in the Bahamas, our last taxi driver takes us "The Treme Way" and happily tells us that these are the areas that tourists don't get to see. There is a reason for that buddy!! Unlike New Orleans, I had no clue where we were as we drove down tight little alley ways that were actually major roads and made so many turns we could have been in Cuba for all we knew. At one point I realised that the Taxi driver had been burping the whole time while playing the only Caribbean music we had heard all trip. It was rough . really rough and when we got to the airport we all crawled out of the cab with a sigh of relief and happily went through our security checks to get to our gate.
Steve got frisked by the biggest black man in the airport - border patrol style! Even got the bag and laptop swabbed for drugs and explosives. Just another day in the US or A's customs area.
Our flight to Orlando was with BahamasAir, they were the only carrier that was going directly to Orlando in the time frame I was after. Below is a picture of our plane.
At the sight of this plane Steve shat himself. Spending years catching these sorts of planes to work had really put him off the whole twin propelled engines and made him a fan of the jet engine. We were going old school with this flight and it became the running joke the whole time about if we will make it to Orlando alive.
After fortifying ourselves with free WiFi (something we missed while at the villa) we smoothly took off and left the Bahamas behind.
How many seats were on the plane - and Steve's head
After a bumping landing and the wonder of our luggage arriving at the baggage claim before we did, we caught another taxi and headed to Coronado Springs Resort - Disneyworld.
Check in was easy and after saying yes to charging things to the room key we were on our way to our room - a good ten minute walk away.
The resort is massive! As we were driving up there was a sign for McDonalds the same way as our resort was. Once we arrived we still hadn't seen the Maccas so my thoughts of walking to a lot of places went out the window. We have been walking everywhere else but the size of this place is mind blowing.
Our room was really nice and situated just down from the pool area. The pool was one of the reasons why we went for this place and they have an arcade there as well. I had read a few reviews about this resort online and was starting to get worried, I don't know what these people were complaining about. One woman complained that she had seen a raccoon at the bin one night and rang management to do something about it and they didn't. We saw a raccoon on our first night back from the pool and Jackson was trying so hard to get a picture of it he ended up chasing it to the car park. It was hilarious - not something I would complain about.
The Mouse ears on our bed when we arrived
Our home for four nights
Walking back to the check in area
Where we had dinner
The size of my brownie for dessert - all of $3.99 ex sales tax
The pool area
Once we were settled in the room we had a look at the million and one brochures we got to suss out what we were going to do while we were here. It was decided we would got to Kennedy Space Station tomorrow as there was a satellite launch happening in the evening and that would be really cool to see.
We headed over to the concierge and Eric sorted it all out for us. He was fantastic, rang a transport company for us to get a price, price was too much so suggested a car hire for the day, while I was sorting that out he printed off directions for us and highlighted where the Premium Outlet Shopping Malls were for me (hey if I was hiring a car for the day we can spend half of it at the shops right?), Just really great service.
After having dinner at the Pepper Market, Shaye went for a swim in the pool and we watched Monsters Inc in the pool area on a big screen. It was so much fun and you could hear me laugh miles away cause I love that movie. I was concerned that things would be really geared towards the kids but it's a happy medium. We just need to find a seven 11 or something to get some supplies before we go broke at the Disney eateries. Got the car tomorrow - maybe we can find somewhere.
