Shopping

Monday 13th

Monday was shopping day.

The Bahamas don't have some sort of tax of luxury goods so things from Gucci and Armani are cheaper here. Well, cheaper is relative really because a bag might be $2500 in the US but $2000 in the Bahamas - it's still way out of my price range. I did have a hard look at the Tiffany display cabinets but there were no Jimmy Choo stores so there wasn't anything there to tempt the use of the credit card.

We walked up and down Bay Street, stopping here and there to get a few things that Shaye wanted - dresses and stuff but really nothing jumped out at us. Which thank god for because we walked past a few alley ways that I wouldn't want to walk alone down on a bright sunny day. Gee there are some shoddy people here. Not everyone mind you - just a few that are more visible then home. Like the other day when we were walking home from the shop. The kids were walking ahead of us when this guy comes out of a car over to Steve and I. He mumbles about disabled kids making these bracelets as he puts them on our wrists then wants money for them. Luckily I had read about this sort of scam before we left so I took the bracelet off and told him we weren't interested. He hops back into the car and his mate drives him off. If we had of reached for our money he would have robbed us and got in his get away car easily. As it was Steve had no clue what was happening.

The rest of the day was spent at the beach and having one last meal at Viola's. Check out is early tomorrow - we have to be at the airport at least 3 hours early. Everyone here is on Bahama time.

The area that used to be known as Archies Bar - Steve's favourite bar in the whole world. It no longer sits there because as you can see by the caution tape, you can't go on the deck. Bahamians built it and it's not very stable as the bags of cushioning underneath the one joist hold the whole thing up. Luckily there is another area just up the top that the staff from Sunrise Beach Resort utilise to drink their working day away. Steve's idea of a perfect working environment.
