Monday was swamping day and the weather was awesome as we headed out to Lafitte.
Our guide didn’t have as much to say as our last guide but we ended up catching up with another group and their guide was a bit more animated.
As you can see by the pictures – yes that guy is feeding a wild alligator by hand. The swamp is awesome and I could have stayed out there all day but lunch at Pat O’Briens was calling our names.
Steve and I headed out for a walk after lunch while the kids chilled in the hotel room. I finally bought a dress from Trashy Diva’s after stalking the website for 3 years. I also got Steve a maroon dressing gown made by one Oscar De La Renta from a vintage shop. Convinced Steve he will look like Scott Disick so we made the purchase.
Tuesday was Natchez steam boat time.
Steve and I had done it last time and we wanted the kids to
have a ride up the Mississippi so with ‘The saints come marching in’ playing on
the pipe organ we headed down river.
Steve stayed in the hotel this time and the kids and I
walked the streets of the French quarter. I want to absorb as much of the city
as possible but it’s hard to shield the kids from the Hustler club down the
road from the hotel. Bourbon Street is right next door which isn’t too bad
cause you just walk past the corner to get to Jackson Square but if you want to
get to Canal Street, it’s the best route to take. Luckily at 10 am its real
quiet and the spruikers aren’t awake yet. Still, the smell of stale alcohol and
disinfectant doesn’t sit well with Shaye.
Wednesday – our last day in New Orleans.
Today has been really quiet for us. Nothing was planned except
for long walks around the French quarter. We headed down St Ann Street looking
for this you beat fried chicken place Steve had seen advertised. Unfortunately
where he was after was in the Treme area and there was no way I was headed down
there for brunch. In the end we went to the Monde Café and all of us ordered
fried chicken. Yummo, it was delicious and so was the mac n cheese with mine.
So our last day was spent being tourists, walking around and
taking a bucket load of pictures. Now we are sitting back at the hotel waiting
to have our last meal at the Camellia Grill (our new local) then get up at
3:30am to catch a connecting flight to the Bahamas. Looking forward to the
beach and the best bar in the world – Archies.
